Toronto Fringe Review: Artificially Intelligent
Courtesy of ChatGPT, which is heavily featured in Artificially Intelligent, “Artificially Intelligent skillfully integrates comedy with state-of-the-art technology, exemplifying a pioneering application of artificial intelligence to probe creativity within contemporary performance.”
Anesti Danelis is redefining comedy with Artificially Intelligent, showing us just how far AI can go in the world of entertainment. When he handed AI the reins to write a musical comedy about his life, let's just say the results were... well, not quite Grammy-worthy. But leave it to Danelis to spin that mishap into pure comedic gold. His ability to harness AI to enhance human creativity rather than replace it proves he's not just pushing the envelope—he's giving it a good shove.
What makes Danelis stand out from the crowd of musical comedians is his knack for blending personal experiences with universal humor. Whether he's riffing on second-generation immigrant challenges or poking fun at queer stereotypes, his comedy strikes a chord that's both hilariously relatable and broadly accessible. Danelis crafts a show where laughter knows no boundaries—it's comedy that brings us all together!
And while Artificially Intelligent may have had its share of technical bumps along the way, Danelis and the production team (Lighting Designer Justine Cargo, Production Assistant Kimberly Wells, and Director Alia Rasul) are clearly onto something big. With a bit more fine-tuning, this show promises to not just be innovative, but downright hilarious.
With a show inspired by AI, the jokes may be binary but the laughs are universal. In fact, Artificially Intelligent may even have your smartphones chuckling along!
Artificially Intelligent is on now until July 13 at the Toronto Fringe. Show times and tickets.
