Review: Lars Classington, Silly Goose
Lars Classington’s debut album, Silly Goose, could not have a better title. The Ontario-based performer is a bonafide Silly Goose.
He isn’t trying to make the audience think about anything other than a good time. That is, unless you count his merciless musical diss-track… about raisins. Classington really doesn’t like raisins.
Silly Goose is Dad humour. It’s the type of writing that gets some people slapping their knees and others rolling their eyes.
He’s absurd, but not alienating. Classington is clever, but his writing won’t fly over anyone’s head. He’s under the same umbrella as Milton Jones or a young Jim Carrey with shades of Tenacious D- it’s goofy escapism.
Classington enjoys making a meal out of very simple concepts. He turns puns and wordplay into thesis statements, get rich quick schemes, and audience interaction. With his guitar, boundless energy, and pleasant demeanor, he gets the whole crowd in on the fun. By the end of this short album, it feels like you’re listening in on old friends with inside jokes.
The experience Lars Classington provides is kind of like children’s entertainment- for adults. Very for adults. Give it a listen and clap along.
Silly Goose was released July 1, 2020.
