Don Valley Girls Premieres at RISER Toronto
The Don Valley Girls, a new sketch comedy troupe on the Toronto scene, will premiere a 60-minute revue at the Theatre Centre as part of Why Not Theatre's RISER Toronto running through April 15-24, 2022.
Directed by Liza Paul (Comedy Is Art. Festival, pomme is french for apple), the troupe features Rabiya Mansoor (Get Up, Aisha, Bob Curry Fellowship), Mona Hersi (Tokens, Abroad), Andie Hong (My Strange Girlfriend, Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival) , Fateema Al-Hamaydeh Miller (Toronto Arab FilmFest), and Surer Qaly Deria (Virgins!, Just For Laughs).
In a press release, The Don Valley Girls say they are “a mashup of Somali/Korean/Palestinian/Pakistani Canadian perspectives from women and non-binary folks who are lamented by the fact they’ve aged out of being the Main Character™.“
Why Not Theatre recently announced RISER Toronto will return with three in person productions, including The Don Valley Girls, April 1-May 8, 2022 at The Theatre Centre, followed by two online presentations throughout 2022. RISER Toronto is a collaborative producing model for independent theatre artists that features a broad range of works including experimental theatre, dance, comedy, and music.
