Album Review: Meghan Patrick, Heart On My Glass
Bowmanville, Ontario won't be mistaken for Nashville anytime soon, but it does have a history hosting the annual star-studded Boots and Hearts Festival. And if it ever returns to that town in the coming years Meghan Patrick will be hometown headliner judging by this tremendously consist, single-soaked third studio album.
Patrick has perfected radio-friendly country with early expletive-praising singles such as the rowdy yet polished "My First Car" which will be a concert staple hitting all the right references to beer, trucks, George Strait and the late Joe Diffie. Even the slow, soulful mid-album ballad "Better Story" glides alongside.
Although the second half of the album pales slightly to the almost flawless first half, songs like the highbrow pop of "Cool About It" shines. "Belong In Boots" packs a wallop with a meaty guitar solo to boot. The fact her name is also found on each song in terms of songwriters shows she's much more than just a great singer.
Patrick has crafted a gem here with the country-pop tightrope walked perfectly on "Never Giving Up On You" and the tender, thoughtful "Mama Prayed For." Although it's released on June 25th, Christmas has come early for country fans with this one.
