Scott Duncan Announces Upcoming Old-time Album
Western Canada’s premiere fiddler Scott Duncan takes a deeply personal exploration of family, tradition, community and the legacy of his late grandfather - a prominent member of the national touring ensemble The Maple Creek Old Tyme Fiddlers. Grandpa & Me, a new Old-time album out November 5, 2024, is set to celebrate the vibrant fiddle tradition of the prairies and the musical bond that developed between a grandson and his grandfather.
“My grandpa passed away peacefully a few years ago at 106, but his spirit lives on in every note we played,” said Scott Duncan of Calgary. The album was recorded live-off-the-floor with a stringband in the iconic Maple Creek Armoury in Saskatchewan, a place Scott and his grandpa played countless times over the years. “This album is more than just music; it’s a tribute to a man who not only shaped my life but also preserved a rich cultural tradition.”
Scott has been an international touring musician since the age of 12 with The Calgary Fiddlers and Barrage and he continues to this day, 30 years later, as a fan-favourite with iconic western folk musicians John Wort Hannam and The Wardens.
Grandpa & Me keeps the spirit of Maple Creek fiddling alive. Scott will be performing some of the tunes on this album on tour with The Wardens in Saskatchewan from October 23-November 3 to help celebrate the new album.
