Album Review: Kevin Christopher, Nidevilir
Kevin Christopher is a man of many talents. From this Toronto-based comedian, author, and voiceover artist comes Nidevilir, a short and sweet comedy EP. If you aren’t familiar with Christopher’s work, this is a great introduction to his loose, off the cuff style.
Right off the bat (pun intended, he has a lot of thoughts about bats), you know this guy is used to being on stage. He riffs easily with the audience, commanding the space and setting the scene for laughs.
Some subjects, from the infamous bat soup theory to Tim Hortons Bieber Bits, feel a bit temporary in today’s fast paced “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it” climate. It’s with more evergreen material, like marriage and some personal anecdotes, that Christopher shines. With plenty of act outs, he presents his playful perspective on both unique and everyday experiences.
While some jokes could use a quick edit, this is something Christopher addresses with a charming level of self-awareness. Overall, this 17 minute offering feels like a fun time at a classic comedy club.
If you’re wondering about the Viking sounding title to this EP, well, that remains a fun little mystery.
