Album Review: Five Roses, Jukebox Vibrations
The Quebec duo of Jade-Savannah Godin and Zachary Ouimet who make up Five Roses have had a happily hectic 18 months. After releasing a handful of singles the tandem are gearing up for a string of tour dates in February 2023 with Tebey as part of his Shotgun Rider trek in support of this nine-song effort. Five Roses says the tunes are "the blueprint of our hearts" and they wear their country hearts on their sleeves throughout with the closing "Partner In Crime" the highlight of many highlights.
The steady ear candy on "Feel Good" is solid as both Godin and Ouimet complement each other perfectly. Perhaps even more surprising is how their bilingual version (French and English) later shines just as much. Five Roses successfully give the same treatment to "To The Moon And Back" with both tracks being tres bon with a subtle Beyoncé reference.
As for the rest ofJukebox Variations the tandem soar on "Our Days Are Numbered" which describes making the most of a summer romance ending. And "Might As Well Be Me" belongs in a playlist with the likes of Lady A. The breezy season theme continues on "Summer's Gonna Save Us," another slick, well-crafted nugget. C'est superbe!
