Review: Rob Bebenek, Everything is Fine
Rob Bebenek is one of those comics who says what you’ve been thinking, only better and more efficiently. He’s full of friendly, crowd-pleasing energy (with some lovable grumpiness) and relatable material. It’s that kind of “other people are stupid, but us in here? We’re smart” comedy that works so well.
Fans of Jim Gaffigan, Brian Regan, and Jim Jefferies will love Everything Is Fine, the debut album from this rising Canadian star. You’ll think back on Bebenek as you navigate home renovations, forgetting your reusable bags, and witnessing the absurdities of everyday life.
He doesn’t do much crowd work, but engages the audience with every setup. A highlight is when he brings up #MeToo, then addresses the immediate tension in the room. It’s always dicey when a man starts breaking down women’s rights movements, but his take is refreshing, funny, and helpful. It’s hard to navigate controversial subject matter without dividing an audience, but Bebenek makes it look easy.
This is classic comedy without the “why does he hate his wife so much” parts. He’s dirty without being filthy, cutting without being cruel, and frustrated without being angry. Give Everything Is Fine a listen. You’ll be happy you did.
Everything Is Fine was released August 28, 2020 on Macaw Studios.

A rather eclectic set tossing out one bizarre but highly amusing concept after another.
