Quarantine Viewing Roundup
Four months have passed since quarantine due to COVID-19, and in that time I have watched a lot of television. A. LOT. OF. TELEVISION. Like many of you, I have started to get a bit of viewership fatigue. That being said, the following list are the highlights of online programs I have watched in this time. Please allow this list to inspire you once more to come back inside from the beautiful summer and sit on that couch. Enjoy!
Bad Dog Comedy TV
As a working improviser (an oxymoron, I am aware) in Toronto, Bad Dog Theatre has always been a joy to both perform in and be an audience member of. Lucky for us, being stuck inside and six feet away from people has not stopped Bad Dog Theatre from producing content! They currently have a YouTube channel you can subscribe to, where you can watch some exceptionally charming content. A personal favourite is the Friday night show “Never Have I Ever”, created by Daphney Joseph and produced Coko Galore. It’s literally the drinking game except played by hilarious comedians. Plus you can drink along with them, and TBH, getting hammered at home is the current quarantine mood we should all strive for.
Other shows include “High Tea with Ajahnnis Charley” and “The Oval”, a parody of the Netflix show The Circle. Also, do you think the cast of The Circle is real sad that they preemptively quarantined? Or are they just sad because...well… you know. Here’s the YouTube link to subscribe.
Normal People
Hello my name is Alessandra Vite and I have watched the entirety of this BBC/HULU/CBC GEM series three times since it aired in April. Normal People is endlessly watchable. (To me, maybe because I am a pervert). It is beautifully shot and extremely well acted. OH, ALSO THE SEX SCENES ARE LIKE EIGHT MINUTES LONG A PIECE AND LIKE SO INTIMATE. Sex aside, this show has that ability to make you empathize with every character, and fantasize about walking the streets of Dublin… and, like fantasize about other stuff too, but I won’t get into it… again. Based on the Sally Rooney novel, please enjoy this surely to be award winning series. Plus, this show will get you super into men wearing chain necklaces, and that’s a win-win for fashion and libidos! (Hi Paul Mescal!)
Selling Sunset
I am so sorry to tell you to watch this show because it stands for everything that is wrong in the world, but dammit, I love real estate. Follow a group of women and two haunting boy twins, sell houses to the rich and people who think they are famous. This show was created by the brains behind Laguna Beach and The Hills; and I blame them for making this show so freaking interesting. This is the type of show that makes you say things like, “4.5 million is such a reasonable asking price for that area”. I don’t want you to watch this show, but isn’t it weird that by the end of me writing this sentence you are somehow on episode three and you think Romaine and Mary are making a huge mistake?
COVID-19 Updates on CP24
If you’re like me, I assume you fluctuate between wanting to have all the information you can about this pandemic and hiding in your room and watching “Vanderpump Rules”. (This list is not an endorsement of that show, because that show is bad people.) These updates are a real edge of your seat ride considering all the information given contradicts itself. There are so many twists and turns, such as, “is Doug Ford actually doing a good job?” and “so do I still wash my groceries?” So definitely give this one a watch, because it’s your civic duty while we continue to exist in this hellfire world. Oh and also, WEAR A MASK.
DEFUND THE POLICE/BLACK LIVES MATTER
This isn’t a TV show. Just defund the police now. Contact your local councillor and tell them you want them to defund the police. Black Lives Matter. Canada has systemic racism and defunding the police is a step in breaking down that system. DEFUND THE POLICE, DEFUND THE POLICE, something about television shows where boys look cute, DEFUND THE POLICE, something about Tiger King, DEFUND THE POLICE, BLACK LIVES MATTER. https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/
