Album Review: Yung Poop, Country Boys Make Do
I’d like to open this review by clearly stating that I’m not the fun police. I too have put out a lot of dumb comedy material for fun during this pandemic, so I get why Yung Poop made this. That said… Country Boys Make Do full on sucks.
It’s a piece of musical comedy that is transparently low-effort on both counts. The vocals and music are not even close to strong enough to carry an album. Every song has lyrics that either cram in way too many syllables or stretch out way too few. The comedy itself is also remarkably lazy. It’s not that sucking dicks or shitting your pants isn’t funny, it’s that once Yung Poop finds a punchline he just repeats it for the full song. You get one joke per track, and that’s it. Farm Livin has a funny twist (and is the only track that doesn’t reference butthole touching) but even here, the same joke gets repeated three times.
Making a good musical comedy album is hard, making one entirely out of first drafts is impossible. Instead of listening to Country Boys Make Do, I recommend checking out the knockoff Jackass tapes that you and your friends made in high school. You’ll get the same level of comedy and production value, but at least some fun nostalgia.
