Album Review: Terri Clark, It's Christmas...Cheers!
In almost any successful singer's career there are times when a new album of new material takes a back seat to one of the following: a hits compilation, a live album, a reissue or Christmas album. For acclaimed Canadian icon Terri Clark she's gone down the snow, sleigh and Santa route. But instead of delivering note-for-note renditions of the classics, she's gone out of her way with special guests to make it a worth release.
Clark has some fun on standards like "Winter Wonderland" with its ivory tinklings and some reworked lyrics while "Jingle Bells" has a horn-fuelled hook to it. The greatest part of the album is saved for the second half as a bevy of A-list talent lends their pipes for terrific results. None more than the gorgeous "Silent Night" with Vince Gill.
Whether it's the gentle "Cowboy Christmas" featuring Ricky Skaggs or the bubbly "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" with Dierks Bentley, Clark taps into the season's joy with these duets. The easy, breezy record concludes with "Away In A Manger" featuring Pam Tillis and Suzy Bogguss with ethereal harmonies. A Christmas album you need? If there's one this year this is it!
