Album Review: Randee Neumeyer, Bad Baby
Randee Neumeyer's new album title, Bad Baby, encapsulates this album better than any album name I've heard in a while. Randee's sweet delivery coupled by her self imposed inability to grow up well into her adulthood provides a zany ride of stopping to pet stray cats, dating mishaps on account of petting too many cats, trying to find raccoons instead of cats, and of course, wetting the bed.
Lest you think that the cat material is not purposefully placed and well thought out, Randee compares petting stray cats to strip clubs: "I'm the reason you eat, and I can't even touch you??", is a section that garners a genuine laugh out loud moment from the listener.
Randee is arguably revelling in her single life as she takes spiders as her companions and eventually reveals herself to be dating a guy that works for home depot (spoiler alert- it's a shower head). Her material provides plenty of nods to her home province of Alberta, remarking that normally when she mentions that she worked at Boston Pizza, she gets an applause break.
Randee's humour provides enough funny raunch and bizarre quips to keep even the most seasoned comedy audience eyes wide and mouth agape, but honestly listening to this audience in particular is part of the ride of Bad Baby. Although I am focusing on Randee's material in this review, I implore you that this album is worth listening to even just for the audience reactions, their stand out animalistic laughers and responses left to slip out in the darkness.
If that doesn't seem like enough of a push to listen, have you ever wondered what an impression of a mattress eating piss would sound like?
