Album Review: Ian Lynch, Dare to Dream
Ian Lynch has an unbridled level of confidence that can be pretty rare in the comedy world. He’s not one of those “stuff my hand into my pocket and mumble about my insecurities” kind of comics. And he has no reason to be. He’s a very successful performer with his fingers in a lot of pies (among other things).
In addition to his stand up comedy, Lynch is a popular TV and radio personality with a great Instagram page. It’s nice to see someone own up to their success in a world where self-depreciation is on trend.
Dare to Dream, the debut album from this multidisciplinary Toronto-based artist, was produced by Howl & Roar Records at The Ossington (RIP), a legendary comedy venue. It is high energy filth from start to finish, kind of like the entire cast of Workaholics with a pinch of John Waters.
Lynch’s album is not going to be for everyone, but people who like it will revel in it. One track, just shy of 3 minutes long, is a roast of his buddy’s penis. Another involves overhearing a deaf person’s sex noises. Then there’s good old fashioned shitting your pants.
He’s the kind of party boy some folks will want to hang out with, while others will be content to live vicariously through. Either way, it’s going to be a wild ride.
Dare to Dream was released October 16, 2020 on Howl & Roar Records
