Album Review: Andrew Searles, Worth It
High energy, warm enthusiasm, and clever premises are all abound in Andrew Searles latest album Worth It.
Andrew’s polished delivery and self-described “Carleton” vibes are on full display in this fun 56 minute album. His entertaining worldview sheds light on the differences between living in America and Canada, African culture, and the deep-seated horrors of being an adult.
Leaning on his vocal strengths, Andrew challenges audiences to consider what culture has the best accent. Paired with his strong act-outs, the track “Africans” is a strong example of a comic using “all the tools in the toolbox” in an effort to bring his audience to a comedic boiling point.
Predominantly, the album is wholesome in its subject matter; even his approach to heavier subjects such as racial tensions is laced with his trademark charm. However, “family friendly” exits the equation as Andrew chooses to close his album with an X-rated advertisement for Viagra, proving that even Carleton has a wild side.
The standout track of the album “Haunted House” explores what an adult’s relationship should be to Halloween. The strength of this premise lies in the clarity of the subject, the comprehensive collection of tags and angles, and the quick-witted delivery paired with steady pace. When it comes to Andrew Searles latest album, it is definitely worth it.
Worth It was released April 11, 2023 on 800 Pound Gorilla.
