Album Review: Keesha Brownie, Ingredients of a Brownie
Keesha Brownie’s album has everything you love about a night at a comedy club. The material is casual and cool, with an edge that keeps you on your toes. Brownie is a charming performer with a confident command of the stage. She uses her acting experience to her advantage, peppering her jokes with act-outs and accents. The audience loves her, and she loves them right back.
It’s no surprise Brownie knows how to work a room. She’s a classic comedian who embraces the hustle and grind. She’s toured Yuk Yuk’s stages across Canada, been featured on CBC, and established herself on the New York scene. Even during a pandemic, she’s working the Lockdown Tour, an interactive online show produced by the Underground Comedy Railroad.
In this debut album, Brownie sparkles on tracks like “French Jamaican,” where she explores her experience as a native to Montréal with Jamaican parentage. Her comedy is mostly anecdotal, sharing stories from travel, relationships, and family. It’s precisely what most comedy audiences look for: relatable material with personal roots.
Short, sweet, and leaves you wanting more- Brownie’s album is a lot like her namesake dessert. It’s a perfect introduction to this rising star.
Ingredients of a Brownie was released February 26, 2021 on Howl & Roar Records.
