Review: Rebecca Kohler, Guilty and Disgusting

Rebecca Kohler is a jewel in Canada’s comedy crown. She’s been in the game for 19 years as a headliner, festival favourite, and television writer. Her latest album, Guilty & Disgusting, does not disappoint. 

Kohler’s material is both relatable and completely absurd. Her premises are normal enough to draw anyone in, but packed with surprising punchlines and odd asides that will satisfy the comedy nerds. She’s a loopy everywoman, like someone Jane Krakowski would play on a sitcom.

Despite the title, and the fact that the album is full of *adult subject matter,* nothing ever feels gratuitous or unnecessary. You may not want to listen to it with mom, but she’d likely enjoy it. It’s good fun, and never at anyone’s expense. Unless you wear toe runners or are, you know, the patriarchy. When Kohler does get a bit of a groan reaction on a dark punchline, she doesn’t linger or freak out about it. She just keeps the laughs coming. 

Highlights include the results of a gassy google search, a dirty hookup, and some incredibly insightful thoughts on feminist topics. Kohler never stops the party to sit backwards on a chair and teach you about life. She just delivers her message lovingly wrapped in a fart joke.
