Review: Brian Hope, Life of Brain
Brian Hope’s aptly named Life of Brain is an amusing window into this comic’s day-to-day. The bite-sized album takes us on a half-hour tour through Hope's escapades on the road and at home with his family.
Fans of Jim Gaffigan and Brian Reagan will be happy to add Life of Brain to their collection. He's the classic everyman and sticks with the time-honoured "write what you know" philosophy.
He has an easy time on stage, confidently delivering anecdotes about moms on cell phones, his failings to perform as the tooth fairy, and an absurdly long pizza delivery.
Hope delivers his material in a conversational tone that makes you feel less like you're listening to a slick performer and more like you're hanging out with a funny friend. He's got the Canadian sense of humour down to an art with his friendly demeanour and a hint of sarcasm in every punchline.
If Life of Brain were a movie, it would be a "feel good" film. There are a few swears and a couple of naughty wisecracks, but nothing to get upset about. Listen with a date, a family member, or at the end of a long hard day.
